PQ will be forced to accept they have no separation mandate: Stephen Harper

VANCOUVER — Quebecers may have voted for change, but they didn’t give the Parti Quebecois any sort of a mandate to pursue separating from Canada, Prime Minister Stephen Harper says. There’s no other way for the people of Quebec or the Parti Quebecois to interpret the result, Harper said Thursday during a interview with Bloomberg News.
“The people of Quebec voted for change, a pretty strong desire for change . . . at the same time, I think it was pretty clear they were denying any kind of a mandate to pursue the separation of Quebec or the division of the country,” Harper said.
“That’s certainly how we interpret it, and that’s how the government of Quebec will be forced to interpret it, one way or the other.”
